[INTERVIEW] XIA JUNSU is on Grammy.com!!!

Source: JYJ Official Facebook
Shared by: JYJCircle

[INTERVIEW] 130719 Junsu (XIA) revealed the reason he chose Thailand as the first stop of Asia tour ‘Because it makes me feel lucky’

On July 19th, 2013 at 4.30 pm., Kim Junsu (XIA) of JYJ, who has flown to Thailand, held a press conference before the opening of his ‘XIA 2ND ASIA TOUR CONCERT INCREDIBLE IN BANGKOK’, welcoming his second album. This concert in Thailand will be the first stop in Asia – on July 20th at Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon. Kim Junsu met Thai reporters with the image of a charismatic man who possesses a friendly charm before he invites his fans to have fun at the party titled ‘Incredible’ that he stated it would make everyone’s summer an even more enjoyable one.
XIA: Hello, This is XIA (spoken in Thai)
Q: How do feel about your second album?
XIA: It’s my second album after the first one that was released last year. The difference is that this album contains a more diverse genre of songs and it is also a more colorful and in-touch with style album. The title track of this album, for example, would fill everyone’s summer with liveliness. They are songs that will make you feel better.
Q: How do you feel about choosing Thailand as your first stop of Asia tour?
XIA: Last year, I also kicked off my Asia tour in Thailand and I’m glad to be doing the same thing this year as well. The reason I chose to start my Asia tour in Thailand is because it makes me feel lucky. It’s almost if I begin my work in Thailand, all good things will follow. I could start off my performances with a great feeling.
Q: Give us the gist about tomorrow’s performance
XIA: The concert list will mostly be songs from my new album. Since there’s a wide variety of genres, the concert will be packed with many different atmospheres and diverse styles of performances. Moreover, there will also be some of the fans’ favorite songs from last year that I’ve prepared to show them.
Q: Tell us a bit about the title track, Incredible
XIA: The title track of this album is a composition of Sony Music’s ‘Automatic’ who worked with me in the previous album. When I first received this song from him, I felt that it truly suits the summer atmosphere. It has a lively beat to it. The song also gives off a different hip-hop vibe from my old style. I’m also honored to have Quincy featured in the song and the music video. The MV will deliver you a festive party that I hope every audience would be able to enjoy this summer.
Q: What is the concept for this album?
XIA: The album focuses mainly on giving off a energetic-club vibe that befits summer.
Q: Does this album represent your growth in term of musicality?
XIA: Compared to the previous one, this album is probably more evolved and also contains a different music style. It makes me feel very contented.
Q: Tell us about your feelings while performing in ‘Elisabeth’
XIA: Performing in Elisabeth really had an influence on my music. Tarantallegra, for example, is one of the songs that sprouted from such influence. I have a strong bond with Elisabeth and it also gave me a chance to receive the Best Musical Actor award. Being able to reprise my role this year, I’m under a lot of pressure. I’m going to try to work even harder for a new image in the role of Death.
Q: What is the charm of musical performance? How does it differ from JYJ’s activities and how does it affect your solo album?
XIA: While I was performing musical, I had to memorize lines and lyrics within a limited few hours time. During Mozart, I had to study the various dimensions of that particular character. Performing in musical wasn’t just about me. There are also staff members and 80-100 performing members of the orchestra – everyone had to work together. Being involved in that kind of working atmosphere was an exceptional experience.
Q: Does doing musical influence the making of music video?
XIA: I’m not too sure whether it did or not. There are also the songs and concept which I supposed they did receive some influences.
Q: Any activities of JYJ that we could look forward to after this?
XIA: We’re doing solo activities for now, but I think we will meet everyone under the name of JYJ again.
Q: Last year, you held a world tour. Do you feel any kind of pressure this time around?
XIA: The dates for concert in other countries haven’t been set yet, but the most important thing I’m thinking about right now is how to create the most impressive performance for Thai fans. That and that alone would make me feel happy and proud.
Q: What is your impression of Thai fans?
XIA: I’ve actually recognized quite a number of fans. I love coconut juice. Yesterday, fans were giving me support by showing a banner with coconut tree. I like that fact the Thai fans are consistently showing their love for me. I’m energized from seeing their faces in the concert – it makes me feel blessed.

[News] Exclusive GRAMMY.com Interview With Xia Junsu

South Korean pop singer/songwriter/actor Xia Junsu recently sat for an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview and discussed his biggest career moments, his special relationship with music and his recently released album, Incredible.

"Ever since I was a kid, music has always been in my life," said Junsu. "It is the only thing I know and I can do. Even before I became a singer, listening to music and singing [were a] major part of my life."

Junsu made his career debut in 2003 as a member of South Korean boy band TVXQ, with whom he released four albums, including the 2004 debut Tri-Angle and 2005's follow-up Rising Sun. In 2010 Junsu formed JYJ with TVXQ members Kim Jaejoong and Park Yoochun. The trio released their debut English album, The Beginning, in 2010, followed by their first Korean full-length album, In Heaven, in 2011.

In 2012 Junsu released his first solo album, Tarantallegra, under the moniker Xia. The 12-song collection features elements of dance, pop and R&B and peaked at No. 10 on Billboard's World Albums chart. The title track, which features vocals from New York rapper/producer Flowsik of Aziatix, has garnered more than 6 million YouTube views to date. In 2012 Junsu released the English single "Uncommitted," which was written and produced by Bruce "Automatic" Vanderveer (Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis) and peaked at No. 1 on South Korea's Hanteo music chart. Aside from music, Junsu has appeared in several Korean musicals, including "Mozart!" (2010) and "Tears Of Heaven" (2011).
Released July 15, Incredible features 11 songs, including the dance-ready title track featuring Quincy Brown, the stepson of Sean "Diddy" Combs.

[News] XIA: “Incredible” is More About ‘Best Music’ than ‘My Music’ – Part 2

K-pop artist XIA speaks at the press conference after his showcase for his second studio album “Incredible” held in Seoul, Korea on July 15, 2013. [C-Jes Entertainment]

Q. It’s hard to not mention track “Funny Song.” Is is a song you had always wanted to try making?
XIA: When I took up my pen to write the lyrics for this song at the airport in Los Angeles after shooting the music video for “Incredible,” I couldn’t come up with the lyrics at first but thought of the title. It was a funny song. Its arrangement made it sound cool but it was funny and interesting. So although I tried several times to sing it with different lyrics and melodies, nothing stuck to it as much as “Isn’t this song funny?” [the song’s chorus line and also its Korean title] so that’s why I decided on it. I then started to write the lyrics, telling about the things I had wanted to say. My staff said, “What?” when I told them I would write the lyrics to a song called “Isn’t this song funny” (laughs). So they were a bit confused but I convinced them. It’s like my usual Tweet mentions and also a present for my fans. I wanted to write something funny rather than a mere ‘I love you.’ My staff members voices are inserted all through the song, and it lists their own buzzwords. It’s her over there [a spokeswoman with XIA] who gave a guide speech in an airplane in the song. She is the only one who went with one-take, and she is great. (laugh) I enjoyed working on the song.

Q. You seemed to paid a lot of attention to differentiating your singing style for each song. And it sounds like you expressed almost an excessive amount of emotions in “11AM,” which may be due to the influence you got from working on musicals. Has it changed your style of singing?
XIA: I wouldn’t deny it hasn’t influenced me at all but I felt that the way I sang each song suited it well. It’s also about how you interpret it because the musical industry sometimes says I sing like a pop star and music industry will sometimes say I sing like a musical actor. And yet nobody has presented a reference point. So I record my songs in the way I think I expresses them the best. I’m also inclined to not think too much when I’m singing because that may harm my emotions or flexibility, so I just let my emotions go with the flow as long as it doesn’t take certain skills to sing the songs such as R&B tunes.

Q. There seem to be more elements of American pop music in your new album compared to the first one, both in the song “Incredible” and its music video. So it seems to be directed more to the U.S. market than Japan. Is this the case or is it just the change in style?
XIA: I didn’t do any targeting but there are two things I took into consideration for this album. One was to sing the type of songs I wanted to express and the the other was to sing songs of genres that I hadn’t intended to but decided on because they were so good. I tried to find the mid point of singing those songs in my style but add some new bright colors. On the whole, there are only three to four American pop-styled tunes in the album and I’ve made it more Korean this time. I put aside automatic sounds such as from the synthesizer to give the album more variation but I don’t think I was trying to make it seem more like that [American]. It’s true that I like that kind of music though.

Q. Your vocals sound richer than before. Are there any differences to vocal style from the first album?
XIA: You may not be able to hear it because you’re listening to the finished product but in “Rainy Eyes,” there is something I did that is called ‘carving’ the sound. I wanted to bring that out for the song and create rough sounds like in Stevie Wonder’s songs and tunes we hear in jazz bars. So I emphasized that I wanted such aspects to be touched as little as possible when mixing the song. So in a way, you could say that’s another type of challenge I took up. “Chocolate Girl” is a genre I’d tried singing for our Japanese songs before but I hadn’t tried it in Korea. The song has a plain beginning but I thought I could show more variety with the song because of its lyrics and melody. I wanted not only change the music but also the vocals. Of course, I also included the kind of songs that I’ve pursued until now. I like Asian ballad-style songs so I chose to put “Don’t Leave” into the album. This album was a new challenge for me, starting with the hope of finding more variety in me and a new me. “11 am” is a style I hadn’t tried before either. It’s the song I recorded last. It could seem very plain and monotonous but I thought that monotone is something that would help deliver the feelings just as they were.

Q. What do you mean when you said you wanted to make music that is better than your own songs?
XIA: That’s the thought with which I started working on my first album last year as well. When you write songs for yourself, you can highlight your strengths through those songs because you know yourself the best. But you also put yourself at risk of locking yourself within a set boundary. Of course I’ve been writing songs and make them different but I could harm the quality of my album if I insisted on singing only my self-written songs. My priority lies in the album’s quality, so that my fans get to listen to the best music. So I went further [than just writing my own songs]. I’ve written many songs, such as dance tunes like “Tarantellegra” and Asian-styled ballad songs, but “Don’t Leave” was better than those so that’s why I went with it. They’re songs that’ll go into my album so I chose songs that were of better quality from an objective standpoint.

Q. What are you going to show in your upcoming Asia tour? How is it different from the previous one?
XIA: This time, it will be filled with tunes from the new album. I’ll also bring some of the best performances from last year and the recent original soundtracks “Love Is Like a Snowflake” [from Song Joong-ki’s “The Innocent Man”] and “Foolish Heart” [from Song Ji-hyo’s “The Fugitive of Joseon”] that I sang. About rather than performing my musical numbers, I’d rather stick to the songs in my albums. I considered it but since I’ll star in “Das Musical ELIZABETH” next month, I chose to focus on showing the tunes from my album than from my musicals this time.

Q. Tell us about your future activities and determination.
XIA: My second album rolled out and I’ll be holding my second solo concert in Korea and overseas. I hope I’ll be able to devote all of my energy to each concert and that the audience will cheer for me after receiving my energy. Unlike my first concert that focused on showing my true self, I’d like the upcoming concert be more about having fun with the audience. I’m already excited with the thought of hitting the road to meet fans around the world.

[LYRICS] XIA Junsu – “Confession” (Feat. Gilme)

Written and composed by XIA
Re-arranged by Park Il
Sung by XIA (featuring Gilme)
***
(T/N: I added the Junsu’s narration in the first and end of his song..)
(Narration)
나, 사실 널 좋아해.. 아닌가?
Actually, I love you.. Is it weird?
아.. 사실 나 널 친구 이상으로..
Um.. Actually, to me, you have something more than a friend..
아.. 아이씨..
Ah.. Ouch..
오늘은 고백 할거야..
I’ll do it today..
(Narration)
자, 오늘은 긴장하지 말자.. 준수야!!!
Today, don’t be nervous.. Junsu!!!
여보세요?
Hello?
오늘 하루 종일 뭘 하고 있었니
What did you do for today?
왜 이제서야 연락이 되는 건데
Why are you contacting me now?
(왜? 갑자기?)
(Why? What’s the matter?)
어젯밤부터 찾았단 말야
I’ve been looking for you since last night
고민이 있어 이제부터 말할게
Actually, I have worry.. Now, I’m going to talk to you..
(뭔데?)
(What is it?)
친구에서 연인으로
Becoming lovers after being friends..
우정에서 사랑으로
From friendship to love..
So baby 내 Lovely
So baby my lovely
사실 니가 좋아
Actually, I love you
*** 새삼 다를 게 없는 하루
It’s an untypical day
그 속에 우리 둘
There are two of us..
난 부끄럽게 당당히
I’m shy but bravely..
너에게 내 맘 전할래
I’m going to talk my mind to you
이거 장난이 아냐
It’s not a joke
니가 웃을지 몰라도
You may laugh..
빈말도 아니야 거짓 아냐
But it’s not empty words or a lie
내꺼 하고 싶어
I want to make you mine
(Rap)
너 방금 뭐라고 했어 장난치지 마
What? Pardon me? Stop joking..
나 지금 장난 아냐 날 놀래키지 마
Now I’m serious.. Don’t startle me..
우린 너무 가깝기 널 아꼈기 때문에
Because we’re too close and you’re so precious to me
소중한 널 잃을까 멀어질까 심란해
I’m really worried to lose you or to be estranged from you
고민했어 넌 내 습관 일까
I’ve been also thinking about you.. Are you my habit or something?
자연스런 이끌림은 설레임일까
Is natural attraction actually making my heart flutter..
지금 필요한 건 맘의 준비 아닌 정리
Now what I need is.. Making up my mind not preparation of my mind..
떨리는 내 맘 추스릴 우리 사이의 거리
The distance between us to take my trembling mind..
아침마다 깨워주고
I want to wake you up in every morning
매일 바래다주고
I want to escort you everyday
손 잡을래 안을래
I want to take your hands, to hug you
입 맞추고 싶어
I want to kiss you
(Repeat ***)
너 왜 대답을 안 해
Why aren’t you answering my words?
맘에 안 드니 내가 싫으니
Don’t you like it? Do you dislike me?
덜컥 겁나잖아
I’m so worried
나 같은 남자도 없어 정말 잘할게
There is no man like me, I’ll do my best for you
You are always in my way~~
You are always in my way~~
(Repeat ***)
(Rap)
그래 난 너와 같이 가면 그 어디라도 집 같아
I feel like home whenever we go together
그림자처럼 내 곁에 있어준 Bodyguard
You’re my bodyguard like shadow
서로를 너무 잘 아는 너와 내가
You and I who know each other well
너무 자연스럽게 이렇게 하나가 되길 약속해
So naturally, we promise to make the one like this
난 널 믿고 니 손 잡고
I trust you and take your hands
딴 여자한테 한눈팔지 말고
Never look away from me
니 숨소리 눈빛만 봐도 알거든
I can know you just seeing your eyes and listening to your breath
너와 함께면 다 할 수 있어 난 뭐든
If we’re together, I can do everything.. Whatever it is
(Narration)
야, 그럼… 우리 오늘부터 사귀는거 맞지?
If so… we’re becoming lovers from today, right?
나 이제 ‘야~’라고 안한다..
Now I’ll never call you ‘Ya!!’
‘자기야~’라고 해도… 되지??
Is it okay to call you ‘Sweetie~’?
불러?? 불러봐도 돼??
Shall I call you now? Is it okay?
알았어.. 흠흠..
Okay.. Hm.. Hm..
자기야!!
Uhm, sweetie~~

Now, don’t be nervous.. Junsu-yah!!!
Hello?
What have you been you doing all day?
Why were you unreachable?
(Why all of a sudden?)
I’ve been looking for you since last night
Something’s been bothering me, I’m going to tell you now
(What is it?)
From friends to lovers
From friendship to love
So baby my lovely
To tell you the truth, I like you
*** Today is no different
There are the two of us
I’m shy
But I’m going to express my feelings for you confidently
This isn’t a joke
Although you may laugh
This isn’t lip service nor is it a lie
I want to make you mine
(Rap)
What did you just say, don’t joke around
I’m being serious, don’t freak me out
Because we’re so close and I cherish you
I don’t want to lose you or drive you away
It’s been troubling me, are you my habit?
Am I thrilled by your natural charm?
What I need to do now is not preparing my heart but straightening it out
The distance between us gives more thrill to my trembling heart
I want to wake you up every morning
I want to accompany you every day
I will hold your hand and hug you
I want to kiss you
(Repeat ***)
Why are you not responding?
Do you not like it? Do you hate me?
You’re making me scared
There’s no other man like me, I’ll treat you well
You are always in my way~~
(Repeat ***)
(Rap)
Yeah, wherever I go with you, it feels like home
Like a shadow, you’re always by my side like Bodyguard
We know each other too well
It’s so natural to make a promise like this
I have faith in you and I hold your hand
Don’t lay your eyes on another woman
Just by the look in your eyes and the sound of your breathing, I know
When you’re with me, I can do anything
(Narration)
Hey, so… From now on we’re dating, right?
Now I’m not gonna call you ‘Yah~’
I can call you ‘Honey~’ right?
Can I? Will it be okay?
Alright.. Hmm
Honey!
