[News] One stop for Yuchun's 'Sea Fog' News!

130828: The Big Screen Swallowing Idols

From ticket power to acting skills… aren’t they known for these?
The Chungmuro focus on T.O.P ‘Tazza 2′, Park Yuchun ‘Sea Fog’ and others latching onto protagonist roles.

▲ The birth of a star on the big screen? Park Yuchun, T.O.P

JYJ’s Park Yuchun and Big Bang’s T.O.P are each expected to become the protagonist of ‘Sea Fog’ (director Shim Shun-boㆍproducing ‘Sea Fog’) and ‘Tazza 2′ (Sidus F&H production), respectively. ‘Sea Fog’ is one of Theater Yeonwoo Company’s original stage play by the same title, director Bong Joon-ho will participate in producing the film.

The focus for the two films was all on Song Joong-ki and Kim Soo-hyun as possible popular protagonists. But there are greater expectations [for the two films] now because of Park Yuchun and T.O.P. Park Yuchun received [acting] verification with ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’, ‘Rooftop Prince’ and many other drama opportunities. T.O.P has experiences on the big screen with ’71: Into the Fire’, ‘Alumni’ and etc. The focus is on the two idol stars latching onto becoming these idols of the Chungmuro’s replacement generation or not when news circulate and come out.

130828: Director Bong Joon-ho “‘Sea Fog’ Director Shim Sung-bo personally chose Park Yuchun”

Director Bong Joon-ho talks about the level of satisfaction for JYJ member Park Yuchun.

On the 27th in the afternoon during ‘Snowpiercer’ Media Day held in a restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, Bong Joon-ho was asked the question made about confirming the appearance of Park Yuchun in the movie ‘Sea Fog’(Director Shim Shun-bo).

He said, “Casting is completely up to the director. Director Shim Sung-bo is very fond of Park Yuchun. Having seen all of the dramas Park Yuchun has appeared in, he is different from others. A friend who has worked really hard”, not sparing praises for Park Yuchun on the role of sailor Dong-shik opposite of Kim Yoon-seok.

Park Yuchun –recognized for appearing and acting in KBS2 drama ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’, SBS drama ‘Rooftop Prince’, MBC drama ‘Missing You’, and etc– is going to debut on the big screen through`Sea Fog`.

Furthermore Bong Joon-ho said “‘Sea Fog’ is really a good production”, revealing “[it] is scheduled to start shooting at the end of next month”.

130828: Director Bong Jun Ho “Highly anticipating…Park Yoo Chun’s casting in Seafog”

The casting of JYJ member Park Yoo Chun in upcoming movie ‘Seafog’ (production by Director Bong Jun Ho) is one strongly recommended by Director Shim Song Bo.

On the afternoon of 27 Aug, Director Bong Jun Ho said when he met with the interview team at a Seoul Gangnam restaurant, “Right from the beginning, Director Shim Song Bo wanted Park Yoo Chun to appear in ‘Seafog’”.

‘Seafog’ is a movie project edited from a stage play of the same name. Director Bong Jun Ho steps up as the producer, and Director Shim Song Bo, who was involved in the scriptwriting of ‘Memories of a Murderer’ together with him, will be the director.

Kim Yoon Suk to act as the captain, Park Yoo Chun to appear as a sailor, an opposing role to Kim Yoon Suk.

Park Yoo Chun achieved great recognition in TV dramas such as ‘Sung Kyun Kwan Scandal’ of KBS 2TV and ‘Rooftop Prince’ of SBS. However, this is his first appearance in a movie so a lot of attention is garnered.

Director Bong Jun Ho said, “Park Yoo Chun seems to have a face that can portray many things” and that, “Director Shim Song Bo is very concerned about Park Yoo Chun right from the beginning”. “I look forward to producing a good project with Director Shim Song Bo” he added.

On the other hand, ‘Seafog’ will go into shooting in the second half of this year and screen as planned in the first half of next year.

130506, Code Name: Jackal actress Song Jihyo’s official interview

Source: 日本公開「コードネーム:ジャッカル」女優ソン・ジヒョのオフィシャルインタビュー

[T/N: Translated parts related to Jaejoong only]

JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong first starring movie ‘Code Name: Jackal’ (Distributor: clockworks/shougeto) has been released nationwide on May 3rd and has attracted hot attention from the public.

The movie, Code Name: Jackal, and its thrilling and unpredictable storyline, begins with legendary killer (Song Jihyo) kidnapping top star Choi Hyun (Jejung), then continues with a variety of suspense and comedy.

This is the official interview of actress Song Jihyo.

- Who would you choose - Jejung san or Han Sangjin?
A: Oh Dalsu-san… (laughs) I’m a huge fan of Oh Dalsu-san. He was really good at our first rehearsal reading.

- What do you think of your co-star Jejung san?
A: Jejung was shooting this movie while also filming a drama. I think it was exhausting for him physically and mentally. He was tired but he pretends he’s not while filming. He had to film without showing how tired he was. I think Jejung is very talented, and we should emulate him and do our best since he tries to finish 1 scene with 1 cut only. We have so much fun filming the movie, and I think he’s a great actor while watching him film his scenes.

- Memorable scene while filming?
It’s the scene where Jejung and I were most photographed, he is tied up with a tape and rope in a chair, like in the poster, and I was standing. I feel as though the same scene was shot over a period of 2 months. The situation was that he was used to sitting down that when he was standing, it feels unnatural. He is standing awkwardly but still says ‘I feel great’ and it touched me deeply. But it is funny. It still remains the most memorable. The scene was also included in the making. It was expected that the scene is funny. Because he was tied up a lot and for long periods of time, he goes to the bathroom still tied up, he takes a nap still tied up, talk with the director, have break or relax over a cup of tea and he is still tied up.

- About co-starring with Jejung
He is the perfect image for Choi Hyun and is better than I thought, we are very grateful that he did his best. He is just beginning his career as an actor but he copes up with us. He is our mood maker in the shooting location, he lives up the place even though he is the youngest in the cast. I think it is very cute, but I think his real charm is when he is seriously acting.

′The Jackal is Coming′ Lands in Theaters in Japan and Sells Out Tickets

JYJ Kim Jae Joong and Song Ji Hyo′s The Jackal is Coming has been selling out in theaters across Japan.

On May 3, The Jackal is Coming premiered in Japan under the title Code Name: Jackal. On its first day the movie managed to sell out in theaters not only in Roppongi at Tokyo′s center, but also across the country.

Its success was fairly predictable as the 20,000 tickets made available in pre-sales in February were sold out as soon as they were made available, and the behind-the-scenes DVD topped the Oricon chart as soon as it was released.

On May 5 a Japanese media outlet said about the movie in an article titled ′Movies That Will Blow Away Your May Virus′, “This is a movie we recommend to those who have the ′May virus′; in other words, those who don’t want to go to work after Golden Week (a week of holidays lasting from late April to early May).”

Another outlet gave a new name to Kim Jae Joong′s economic value, calling it ′Jae Joong-nomics′.

The Jackal is Coming is about what happens after the legendary killer Bong Min Jung (Song Ji Hyo) kidnaps the country′s biggest top star Choi Hyun (Kim Jae Joong).

Ultimate K-pop Survival Guide: JYJ

K-pop is an extremely competitive genre, a small country with a population of merely 50 million people produces new artists literally almost every day. The industry is like a ruthless stepmother: once you make a serious mistake, it might cost you your career and more. Career ups and downs are normal in an artist’s life but in K-pop, once you reached the lowest part, it is very difficult to climb up the mountain again. Ultimate K-pop Survival Guide will be a short series on artists who have managed to turn their failing career from point zero back again or who had gone through a lot of hardships and still managed to remain successful. Not only rookie artists but we, the audience, can also learn a lot from them.

Avoid them as if they were lepers

The first installment of the series is dedicated to perhaps the biggest survivors of the dark side of K-pop: JYJ. Everyone knows what they have been through, but it doesn’t hurt to summarize and focus on how they actually managed to cope with the situation.

For the uninitiated: Once there had been an idol band we can possibly call one of the greatest successes of K-pop ever: Dong Bang Shin Ki, or by their English abbreviation, TVXQ. The five-member boyband, consisting of Jaejoong, Yunho, Yoochun, Junsu and Changmin, was among the first successful wave of K-pop to set foot in Japan, and with blood and tears, they worked their way up the ladder, from performing to a mere handful of fans to filling the 50,000 seat Tokyo Dome in rows. Their fandom, Cassiopeia, was certified by the Guinness Book of Records for being the largest official fan club in the world. They reached unimaginable heights in Asia, thus their break-up was probably one of the biggest shocking events ever to shake the world of K-pop. Not because boybands are supposed to last forever, but because they were at the height of their careers and were known to be close to each other. When the news broke out that Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu started a lawsuit against their agency S.M. Entertainment, to nullify their 13-year contract, at first everyone hoped there could be a settlement but in October 2009 the Seoul court ruled in favour of JYJ, and as a result, the Fair Trade Commission started advocating the use of ‘model contracts’ to prevent agencies from having artists sign excessive deals.

Though the social impact of their lawsuit was huge, industry players were forced to rethink the ways they were treating their artists, and JYJ emerged as a moral winner, the real hardships were to begin just then. S.M. Entertainment appealed against the court decision and a three year desperate battle took off. Not long after JYJ announced the establishment of their new band, their initial supporter in Japan, Avex, suddenly had a change of heart, claiming sole rights to manage the band in Japan, dismissing claims that JYJ’s new management company, C-JeS Entertainment, had any rights to organize events for the band on Japanese grounds. They too, ended up in a long lawsuit, during which JYJ was denied any kind of rights to perform in Japan. At the same time, all doors in Korea closed as well. The industry suddenly started treating the three young men as if they had leprosy. In silent agreement, major broadcasting stations denied them appearances as musicians. Some were claiming that they did not wish to get entangled in court related issues.

“At the time, we had no one to speak for us, and we could do nothing but silently stand our ground” - Kim Jaejoong

C-JeS Entertainment thus had to build a different strategy to promote JYJ. With no possibilities to appear on televised music shows and variety programs, the usual promotion cycle was out of question. The possibility of failure also lingered in the air, with the artists preparing themselves for the worst: that they might not be able to stand on stage again.

The rules of survival for JYJ were as follows:

1. Keep silent.
Despite the constant rumours, the extensive media coverage, part of the torn fandom accusing them of betrayal, former label mates openly criticising them for their decision, JYJ kept silent. As they expressed in their 1000 day anniversary magazine, they decided to work silently and not be shaken by accusations and rumours.

2. If you cannot enter through the door, climb through the window. As they were denied the chance to promote through television, JYJ had to look for other ways of reaching their audience. They started separate activities, Yoochun and Jaejoong became involved in television dramas and movies, gaining wide followings as actors. Junsu began to appear in musicals and in a mere three years’ time, he went from being looked at as a ‘box office bringing tool’ to a highly praised and critically acclaimed musical actor on his own right. When the nation’s main broadcasters were not willing to talk to them as musicians, ironically, they became the sweethearts of the government, appointed as goodwill ambassadors and promoters of national and international scale events like the 2014 Asian Games, and were among the few selected artists invited to perform at President Park Geun-hye’s inauguration. The latter marked their first televised performance in three years in their home country. When local record labels were unwilling to assist, they went to the US and started working with American producers, despite their lack of English skills.

3. No regrets, no complaints.
In their 1000 day anniversary magazine, the band members expressed that despite all the hardships they did not regret their decision, not once. Having faith in your decisions is important for obtaining and maintaining the strength necessary to survive. They have also never complained of unfair treatment or the lack of opportunities because of the silent ban in Korea and Japan. They just did what they had to do: work hard and smile. I believe that having a positive attitude and being able to smile at their fans was an important factor in their success. Instead of giving in to striking waves of depression and self-pity, they rose above hard times by sticking together and supporting each other.

4. Don’t lose your trust. When unfortunate events happen, one can easily feel they are no longer able to trust other people. JYJ, too, had gone through this period. When Baek Chang-ju offered his help in 2009, they did not trust him, it took them months to open up and accept his helping hand. C-JeS Entertainment was established exclusively to steer JYJ’s boat through troubled waters and it went from a one person venture to a serious agency that employs over 40 people with sales amounting to 33 billion won (roughly 30 million USD) in only two years’ time.

JYJ’s legal fights have just recently ended, but their battle is far from being over yet. Broadcasting stations are still treading carefully. Despite all the unfortunate events that had befallen them (appearances denied, concerts cancelled last minute, accusations, rumors, some of their own fans turning their backs on the band), JYJ never once gave up.

Their album, In Heaven, sold over 350,000 copies, Junsu’s Tarantallegra was one of the most successful solo albums of 2012 despite lacking in promotion, both JYJ’s and Junsu’s solo world tours were completely sold out. Their Tokyo Dome comeback concert in April this year had attracted 210,000 people altogether.

Besides part of the Cassiopeia fandom still supporting them as much as they support the duo TVXQ, JYJ gained a firm and enthusiastic new fan base as well, through their group and individual activities. Jaejoong’s limited edition mini album became a huge success, Yoochun is virtually the most successful idol actor on the market and Junsu cemented his name as one of the best singers ever born in Korea. They are wealthier than most artists under their former agency, including their former band members Yunho and Changmin.

Were they lucky? I would not think so. Many of us would have given up such a grueling and frankly, seemingly hopeless battle against giant obstacles. What we can learn from JYJ is that you need to keep your faith, grind your teeth, work hard and believe in your own abilities. Only then will you be able to turn all unfortunate events into glistening success.

JYJ′s Kim Junsu′s Animal Documentary Draws High Ratings

Kim Junsu′s voice alone managed to bring high ratings to a late-night documentary.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the MBC documentary The Zoo is Alive, which aired on March 25, managed to garner national viewership ratings of 4.7 percent.

The numbers are 1 point higher than last week′s documentary Uncomfortable Fifth Year of Youth College and 1.6 point higher than the pilot variety I Am Your Substitute Angel that aired the week before.

The number is especially staggering considering how the show was put up against such issue-making shows as SBS′ Healing Camp, which featured the controversial Sul Kyung Gu, and KBS2′s Hello.

While the ending credits rolled, scenes from Kim Junsu′s recording for the documentary and an interview were aired.

“I brought up my courage for the show because it was a documentary on animals,” he said.

Viewers commented, “I liked his voice,” “I hope there′s another episode coming” and “It was great to see Kim Junsu on MBC for the first time in a long while.”

Kim Junsu of JYJ, Narrating the MBC Documentary...His 'Unique' Gentle Voice

Kim Junsu of JYJ met the viewers through a gentle narration.

Kim Junsu showed off his charming voice by narrating the MBC Documentary Special <The Zoo is Alive>.

On that day Kim Junsu told stories of various animals living in Seoul Zoo. Kim Junsu breathed new life into the program with his calm, yet lively voice, telling stories about the marrige of the gorilla, Gorina, who was depressed after losing her husband, plus the healing process of tiger, Crane, who has facial dysmorphism, and the ocean adjustment training of dolphin, Jaedori.

Kim Junsu especially emphasized that the zoo is changing into a mecca to protect wild animals and conserve species, not a playground for humans anymore. As he is a famous ballad singer, Kim Junsu's gentle narration was more persuading by not being too coercive.

On the other hand, Kim Junsu's appearance on MBC is more special due to the fact that it has been 4 years [since he appeard on TV] after filing a lawsuit against his ex-company. Even though he didn't show himself on TV this time, it is expected for JYJ, including Kim Junsu, to be on TV more freely starting from this appearance.

Before the broadcasting, Kim Junsu said, "The animals were so lovely. I hope everyone gets more interested in animals after watching this documentary. The story is so good and warm, so I hope many people watch it and have a healing time."

JYJ′s Kim Junsu Makes First Trip to MBC since 2009

Kim Junsu entered MBC for the first time since 2009 to record his narration for an animal documentary.

The singer attended a recording for the MBC documentary The Zoo is Alive on March 24.

Before he entered the building, he said in awe, “This is my first time in MBC in five years (by Korean count).”

Fellow JYJ members Kim Jae Joong and Park Yoo Chun have visited MBC for their dramas Dr. Jin and Miss Ripley, as well as I Miss You, but Kim Junsu has mostly been active as a musical actor and singer, setting him far from the broadcasting system.

According to an official, he gave his all in the recording as if to make up for the years he wasn′t able to be on the channel.

The Zoo is Alive will be about how trainers at a zoo attempt to heal a Siberian tiger suffering from facial deformities, get a gorilla married and help a dolphin adapt to the ocean.

It will air on March 25.

25Feb2013 [News] “Cutest Crown Prince” wants to work with Chen Kaige; my other 2 members are stronger for “I Am A Singer”

Simple and honest Park Yuchun

Changsha internet news Feb 24th

Hottest Korean drama actor Park Yuchun gave his first China show on Hunan TV Lantern Festival Show tonight. Because of popular dramas like ‘Rooftop Prince’, ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ and ‘Missing You’, Park Yuchun is definitely one of the most popular actors in Korea right now. And in China, he is also extremely popular and this trip to China attracted many fans to gather in Changsha (Hunan). Because it is his first show in China, plus he is facing China media, at the interview scene, this “cutest Crown Prince” seemed a little nervous, but his cute and slightly lost expression caused many female reporters to keep saying, “Adorable!”

Slightly nervous before China media

Because of his role as Crown Prince Lee Gak in 2012 drama ‘Rooftop Prince’, Park Yuchun has ultra-high popularity in China and has been called “the cutest crown prince in history” by China fans. Yesterday when he arrived at the airport, fans who had been waiting there for more than 8 hours were in fanatical pursuit.

Today he was slightly nervous at the interview by the China media before the live show, especially because he was facing a room full of combat-ready Chinese reporters for the first time. But for the later half of the interview, he became accustomed to the atmosphere and gradually relaxed, and smiled. The most interesting part is, at the end of the interview, when reporters requested for him to have a more relaxed pose for better photos, this “cutest crown prince” jokingly did a “very solemn and serious greeting” hand gesture. His cute and slightly lost expression caused many female reporters to keep saying, “Adorable!”

During the interview, he said that last night he rushed straight to the rehearsal from the airport, so he had no time to try Hunan’s delicacies. At the rehearsal, the “Happy Family” helped with the mood and reduced his tension.

Hopes to develop in China, wants to work with Chen Kaige

About future development plans in China, Park Yuchun said he wishes to, but at this moment he does not know about the chances of it happening. He has just finished his recent work in January and has no concrete work arrangements right now. “I myself have slowly matured and so I would like to try taking on the challenge of a variety of roles and acting.”

If possible, Park Yuchun said he would like to work with Chinese director Chen Kaige (陈凯歌). “I’ve watched his ‘Farewell My Concubine’ 《霸王别姬》, and recently his work was also released in Korea.” As for Chinese actresses, Park Yuchun said frankly that he knows/recognises Tang Wei and hopes there is a chance to work with her. “But there has to be the right work and the right role.” “It is good if we can work together but it is not about the actor/actress, it is about the work, the roles have to suit both persons.”

As the hottest male actor in Korean dramas, when asked if he watched ‘My Fair Princess’《还珠格格》and ‘Legend of Zhen Huan’《甄嬛传》or other Chinese dramas with high viewer ratings, he smiled and said some dramas have different names when translated in Korean, and so it may not match, but he revealed that he is currently watching a China drama, and when asked which drama, he laughed and said honestly that he has forgotten the name.

First show in China, nervous. Does not mind being imitated by Du Hai Tao.

Considering Park Yuchun’s busy schedule, Hunan TV for the first time sent a chartered plane to bring him to and fro. Fans from all over China also gathered at Changsha just to have one look at their idol. Regarding this show, Park Yuchun said frankly that he is nervous but also happy. “At the first rehearsal, I was rather nervous but the Happy Family hosts adjusted the atmosphere very well and I could relax. China MCs are great, although it was late, everyone was still very happy.” About Happily Family’s Du Haitao imitating Yuchun’s sleeping posture, besides getting a lot of attention from netizens, it also made a strong impression on Park Yuchun himself, “Yesterday, I met him for the first time but I didn’t feel like we were strangers at all. Because I saw the pictures in Korea, I felt like he is an old friend.”

2 roles, singer and actor

As an idol singer who successfully became an actor, Park Yuchun wishes to work hard at being a good singer and at the same time, work hard to become a good actor.

“Both have different attractions, so it is very hard to pick one. I became an actor after being a singer, but I feel that being an actor suits me. Just like a habit, being a singer is something very familiar to me; if I don’t sing, I will feel very uncomfortable.

“As a member of JYJ, as a singer, I would like to bring more songs to everyone; as an actor, I want to bring more works, the balance is always very hard. This year, I hope to strike a good balance between the two.”

Recently, Hunan TV bought the rights for the Korean show ‘I Am A Singer’ and was a hot topic. Park Yuchun knows this program well but does not have the courage to go on it: “If there is such a chance to appear on the program, I feel my other 2 team members are more suited for it, because I feel their strength in this is much greater than mine.”
