′The Jackal is Coming′ Lands in Theaters in Japan and Sells Out Tickets

JYJ Kim Jae Joong and Song Ji Hyo′s The Jackal is Coming has been selling out in theaters across Japan.

On May 3, The Jackal is Coming premiered in Japan under the title Code Name: Jackal. On its first day the movie managed to sell out in theaters not only in Roppongi at Tokyo′s center, but also across the country.

Its success was fairly predictable as the 20,000 tickets made available in pre-sales in February were sold out as soon as they were made available, and the behind-the-scenes DVD topped the Oricon chart as soon as it was released.

On May 5 a Japanese media outlet said about the movie in an article titled ′Movies That Will Blow Away Your May Virus′, “This is a movie we recommend to those who have the ′May virus′; in other words, those who don’t want to go to work after Golden Week (a week of holidays lasting from late April to early May).”

Another outlet gave a new name to Kim Jae Joong′s economic value, calling it ′Jae Joong-nomics′.

The Jackal is Coming is about what happens after the legendary killer Bong Min Jung (Song Ji Hyo) kidnaps the country′s biggest top star Choi Hyun (Kim Jae Joong).

Korean Source: ‘옥탑방’ ‘자칼’ 日 인기 고공행진, 더 높아진 JYJ 위상

JYJ’s popularity in Japan continues.

After gathering 150,000 people in Tokyo Dome last month, Park Yuchun’s, ‘Rooftop Prince’ started airing and Kim Jaejoong’s movie, Jackal is coming (Japan title - Code Name: Jackal), has been receiving hot attention even before its release, proving JYJ’s popularity in Japan.

C-JeS entertainment said, “DATV started broadcasting Rooftop Prince in April and the drama has swept the Korean drama DVD rental chart. In addition, in a survey conducted by Yahoo Japan, Kim Jaejoong’s movie Jackal is coming is the most anticipated film with a nearly overwhelming response of 96%.”

Related to DVD movies, “Park Yuchun ranked 1 to 5 in Tsutaya’s Korean Drama DVD rental, and Kim Jaejoong’s DVD is currently ranking on Oricon, Amazon, HMV charts, proving how highly popular they are in Japan.”

In addition, a Rooftop Prince cafe was opened to celebrate the success of the drama. The menu includes the omurice and yogurt drink that can be seen in the drama and both are very popular with the fans going to the cafe.

Due to the explosive popularity of the DVD making, Japanese local media has coined the term Jejunomics/Jaejoonomics (Jaejoong + Economics) which means ‘Kim Jaeoong’s economic value.’

After the legal dispute finished and JYJ had successful Tokyo Dome concerts, their popularity is still increasing. Kim Junsu’s english single, Uncommitted, which was released last year, has ranked high in the Amazon chart. JYJ’s music, their participation in dramas, movies, and musicals all play an active part in their popularity.
